Brick scales in Revit (General Pattern editing)

Admittedly I haven’t blogged for a while. Seems like there are enough websites and blogs out there to write a book by now, but here’s a good one that I used recently.

We have a standard brick size of 85mm height & 220mm width.

When using brick course scale it gets a bit confusing because the default brick height in the pattern is 75mm high.

Got to:

C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2008\Data

Select the File revit metric.pat

Open the file,

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????. These are just text representations of hatch patterns.

Look for the Brick 75x225 pattern

Adjust the name of the pattern and your sizes to suite

Or you could copy / paste and edit.

Save this file, (with another name initially) rename your original file to revitmetricoriginal.pat (or something like that, just in case you fluffed the file)

Name your new file as something you recognize.

In Revit, edit your hatch pattern, you will see you can load this file into your surface pattern.

You can now choose which pattern you want.

You can now rename your pattern file, and you are now using brick courses again.

Remember, because you are working with model patterns, they are intelligent so you are able to align rotate or move the pattern in your view.

Below are Revit Patterns for all 127 brick patterns. They are accurate to the 12the of a mm up several thousand feet.
